PART 22
Design Philosophy & Core Principles
#22.1 The ROKI Design Philosophy
Every design decision in ROKI traces back to a small set of core principles. These principles are non-negotiable and should guide all future decisions.
#22.2 Halal-Conscious Design
- No gambling mechanics (no loot boxes, no random paid rewards)
- No maysir-style competitions where entry fees fund prize pools
- Prize pools funded by treasury/sponsors, not pooled player entries
- No riba dynamics — no staking-for-yield-created-from-thin-air
- No gharar (deceptive uncertainty) in disclosures
- Transparent treasury operations, disclosed pre-launch
- Sheikh consultation planned for any gray-area tokenomics decisions
#22.2.1 Halal Philosophy Clarification (v3)
The halal-by-design framework is specifically about what is practiced or endorsed, not about what is depicted. This distinction matters for the character art, the lore, and the broader creative palette.
- Real haram items are removed from the collection. Cigars, alcohol, gambling mechanics — out.
- Cultural and fictional depictions of other belief systems and archetypes are acceptable. Priest, monk, wizard, dracula clothing, and similar character-flavor archetypes are fine. Sharia permits depicting other cultures; the believer simply doesn't have to believe in them.
- The operative distinction is between fictional or cultural representation (acceptable) and practice or endorsement (not acceptable).
- Sihr — real occult magic practice — would be unacceptable. Cartoonish wizard depictions used for character flavor are fine. The difference is promoting the thing vs. representing that the thing exists in the world.
- The framework is consistent with how individual cuts have been made so far: cigars were removed from the collection; tarot cards were renamed to neutral ‘Cards’; paper talismans were renamed to ‘Paper Seals.’ None of these were absolute bans on imagery — they were calibrations around what the name or object endorses vs. represents.
- New characters and items should be evaluated through this lens: is the item practicing haram, or is it flavor for a fictional world? Flavor is fine; practice is not.
#22.3 Skill Over Time
- Record-based leaderboards, not volume-based
- Zen rewards the player with the best single run, not the one who plays most
- Dedication rewards (Dojo) are capped
- A 14-year-old with unlimited time cannot overtake a skilled adult through raw hours
#22.4 Dedication Capped, Not Infinite
- Dojo conditioning maxes at +5 HP total, spread across zones
- Once maxed, no more dedication rewards
- The Unyielding title achievable by anyone willing to commit moderate time
- Minigame streak badges (Train, Breath) are badges of honor, NOT combat bonuses
- No ‘pay-to-win through time’ dynamics
#22.5 No Pay-to-Win
- NFTs give access, not guaranteed victory
- A skilled free-tier player can beat a maxed NFT through better strategy and reads
- Tokens stake for qualification access, not for combat advantages
- No purchasable stat bonuses. No purchasable technique slots.
#22.6 Dignity for All Characters
- Losing ROKIs receive dignified lore
- No lore calls a ROKI ‘bad’ or ‘terrible’
- Every ROKI gets career snapshots — none are invisible
- No ‘hall of shame’ or public humiliation surfaces
#22.7 Transparency Over Secrecy
- Treasury operations disclosed pre-launch
- Tokenomics published in detail
- Development progress visible (GitHub, dev log, shipped updates)
- No hidden insider mechanics
#22.8 Ship Before Polish
- Rough Clash with 50 players teaches more than polished Clash with zero
- Feedback from real users beats perfectionism
- Launch a rough v1 on a shorter timeline rather than a polished v2 on a longer one
#22.9 Founder as Editor-in-Chief
- AI drafts, human curates
- No AI content published without review at launch
- Review queue for lore, events, commissions
- Editorial voice consistency maintained by a single authorial perspective
#22.10 NFT Holders as Equity Partners
- Full commercial IP rights
- Priority access to all future ecosystem benefits
- Reputation follows the NFT, not the wallet
- Every project decision either includes NFT holders or justifies why it doesn't
#22.11 Ecosystem Over Single Product
- ROKI is a franchise, not a game
- Clash + Zen + Dojo + Stare + Dodge + Breath + Train + Verse + Launchpad + NFT Generator + AR-Lite + Lands — all one universe
- Each product reinforces the others
- If one layer dies, the others survive and rebuild momentum
